Re-energize Bangladesh, an initiative to accelerate transition to renewable energy, was officially launched at the CCDB Climate Centre in Gazipur, Dhaka in a collaboration with the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) on Wednesday.
Led by Green Lead and recognized as one of the winners of the ICCCAD Youth Innovation Fund 2024 supported by the Embassy of Sweden, the initiative aims to provide a one-stop center for renewable energy information, policy insights, and youth engagement opportunities.
The launch event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, youth advocates, and climate activists to discuss the future of sustainable energy in Bangladesh.
Md. Fahim Hossain, Founder and Chairperson of Green Lead Society introduced the initiative and its key components, and provided a live demo of the digital platform. The platform also includes energizED, a specialized course designed to inspire future energy leaders.
Prominent guests shared their insights on the role of youth, policy, and private sector collaboration in driving Bangladesh’s clean energy transition.
Md. Irfan Haq Bhuyain, Managing Director of Solar Home Co. and Board Member of Bangladesh Sustainable & Renewable Energy Association (BSREA), highlighted the role of private sector innovations in expanding renewable energy solutions.
Mariam Ispahani, Founder & CEO of Sonali Bioplastics, provided insights into global renewable energy trends and how Bangladeshi youth can contribute to the energy revolution.
Amanullah Porag, Founder & Executive Director of Youth4NDCs and South Asia Mobilization Coordinator at 350.org, spoke on youth engagement in renewable energy and global support mechanisms.
Sohanur Rahman, Executive Coordinator of YouthNet Global, discussed the challenges and opportunities in Bangladesh’s energy transition.
Following the speeches, the event concluded with a Vote of Thanks from
Sumaiya Binte Selim Sudha, Coordinator for Gender and Youth Programme at ICCCAD.
The initiative aims to enhance awareness and visibility of renewable energy solutions, increase youth participation in the renewable energy sector, and support private sector growth. As Bangladesh moves towards a cleaner and more resilient energy system, Re-energize Bangladesh stands as a vital step in empowering the next generation of energy leaders.
