An endangered male ring-tailed lemur, stolen from the Safari Park in Gazipur, has been recovered on Friday. One has been arrested in connection with the crime.
According to the Forest Department, a group of thieves cut the net of the enclosure in the Lamchita house-01 of the Safari Park between 11 PM on March 23 and 5:30 AM on March 24, and stole two male and one female ring-tailed lemur. A case was filed at the Shreepur Police Station on April 7.
Acting on trip off , authorities recovered the stolen male lemur from a cage in an isolated area near the Shyambazar Mosque in the capital. However, the remaining two lemurs are still missing, and efforts to apprehend other members of the theft ring are ongoing.
The ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta) is native to Madagascar and is listed as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Protecting this species is crucial for maintaining biodiversity and environmental health.
