The Andhra Pradesh government has announced its ambition to become India’s leading state in climate action, energy conservation and sustainable development, reaffirming its commitment to environmental stewardship and economic sustainability.
Chief Secretary G Sai Prasad announced the goal while unveiling a joint report prepared by Energy Efficiency Services Limited, under the Ministry of Power, and the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission.
Prasad said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had set an overarching target of achieving 12 per cent economic growth powered by green energy, energy efficiency and water conservation.
Energy efficiency could contribute nearly 40 per cent to efforts to combat climate change, the chief secretary said. He expressed confidence that cooperation between the central and state governments would become a national model for meeting India’s climate commitments and sustainable development goals.
Andhra Pradesh will implement energy-efficient technologies developed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Energy Efficiency Services Limited and Convergence Energy Services Limited across municipal administration, development, MSMEs and welfare institutions, he said.
The state has 21,457 megawatts of installed power capacity, with renewable energy accounting for 37 per cent.
Andhra Pradesh also plans to increase its green cover from 30 per cent to 37 per cent by 2030 and to 50 per cent by 2047.
